Lock files and Folder without using any software on any operating system!!!

You want to protect or hide important documents but don't want to pay money for it. Then this trick is for you.
It's free and simple
[Note- For folder lock you require to install winrar or winzip]

For Windows 7 \ Xp \ Mac \ Linux
Step 1
Open my computer
goto Tools>folder options>view

Step 2

Now Uncheck option "hide extensions for known types"

Click apply

For folder follow step 3 / for file skip step 3

Step 3 (Only for locking folder)

Download file compression software

winzip or winrar (recommended)

install software

Now right-click on folder select add to"file name"

Now software will create .zip or .rar file

Now rename file extension (3 characters after dot) to anything of your chaise eg- .txt,.mp3,.avi

Press Enter Select Yes

[Note:- i recommend you to use extension according to size

file size recommend extension

0 kb-1 mb .jpg , txt

1 mb-5 mb .mp3 , mp4

5 mb - 1gb .avi ,.vob ]

Step 4 (for files)

no need to install any software

directly rename file extension (3 characters after dot) to anything of your choice

eg- .txt,.mp3,.avi

Press Enter Select Yes

Note :- don't use extortion's of same type eg

if file extension is .mp3 then don't use extortion .mp4 , .wmv etc

your desired extension not listed post comment i will try to help you

Step 5 (To add more security for files & folder )

This step is not necessary but it will add more security

Hide these files and folder to populated folders like inside any games support folder

Don't forget to change file\folders main name if required
